Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over southwest Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
“Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, a low pressure formed over southwest Bay of Bengal at 5.30 am on October 21. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further into a depression over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal during the next 36 hours,” the weather agency said.
The fresh weather system is unlikely to have any significant impact over Odisha. Some parts of the state may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-50 kmph) from October 21-24 due to moisture-laden north-easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal blowing towards the state and local heating.
The MeT office has issued a yellow warning for districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri on October 21-22. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea as conditions may become rough over the Bay of Bengal during this period.
