Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low pressure area is likely to weaken gradually over central Bay of Bengal in the 36 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.

The system is currently over westcentral & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. “It is likely to move nearly northwards during the next 12 hours over westcentral Bay of Bengal, maintaining the intensity. Thereafter, it is likely to recurve north-northeast wards and weaken gradually over central Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours,” it said.

Several places in Odisha, including the coastal districts, have been experiencing light to moderate rain with the system pushing moisture carrying winds from the Bay of Bengal towards the state. The IMD has sounded yellow warning of thunderstorm/lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph till April 12.

Light to moderate rain may continue in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore districts on April 13; Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur and Kendrapada on April 14 and coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur on April 15, with little change in the weather conditions during the subsequent three days.

The weather agency further stated that there will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 4 to 5 days across the state. However, the mercury may soar to 40 degree Celsius or above at isolated places in Jharsuguda, Balangir and Boudh districts.
