Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rainfall may pound seven districts of Odisha on Wednesday under the influence of a low pressure, which persists over Northwest Bay of Bengal as a well-marked area.

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is also likely in some parts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts.

Yellow warning of thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph and heavy rainfall has also been issued for Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Puri, Nayagarh, Khurdha, Cuttack, and Jajpur. Thunderstorm/ lightning with surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sudargarh, Angul, Deogarh, Balangir, Boudh, Bargarh, and Nuapada.

The heavy to very heavy rain spell is likely to continue for another two days as the system is expected to move slowly northwards and concentrate into a Depression over north Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.

Squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may prevail over Central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coast on May 28. The wind speed is expected to gradually increase becoming 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph on May 29 and thereafter, decrease gradually to 40-50kmph gusting to 60 kmph on May 30.

The sea conditions are likely to remain rough to very rough. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea and along and off Odisha coast from May 28-30.

All ports in Odisha have been advised to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No-III (LC-3).

Meanwhile, southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of Odisha, covering covered entire Malkangiri & Koraput districts and some parts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Gajapati districts of Odisha, 13 days ahead of schedule.
