Bhawanipatna: A 22-year-old man, who had allegedly murdered an elderly villager at Depur in Odisha’s Kalahandi district, has been arrested from Goa.
The accused, identified as Lingaraj Majhi of Depur village, had allegedly murdered Roop Singh Majhi (65) on May 18.
As per sources, Lingaraja murdered the elderly man and carried the body on his shoulders to the village pond, where he severed the victim’s head and buried both parts separately.
Following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s family at Kalampur police station, police registered a case and launched an investigation. Lingaraja was tracked down and arrested in Goa.
During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and later led the police to the scene during a crime scene reconstruction.
A joint team from Junagarh, Jaipatna, and Kalampur police stations, assisted by the Balangir Disaster Rapid Action Force (DRAF) and fire services personnel, recovered the victim’s body from the pond. However, the search for the head is still underway, a senior police official said..
