The well-marked LoPAR has moved slightly west-north-westwards and lay over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coasts at 5.30 am in the morning.

The system is likely to concentrate into a depression during the next six hours. The depression is set to move west-north-westwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh over the next two days, the IMD said.

Under the influence of the system, several districts of Odisha have already been witnessing heavy to very heavy rainfall since Saturday.

The weather agency has issued red, orange and yellow warnings for different districts and a thunderstorm alert for nine districts for the next 24 hours.

Red warning of heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy falls has been issued for the districts of Sambalpur, Angola, Boudhagada, Sonpur and Kandhamal during the next 24 hours.

Similarly, an orange warning has been issued for the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada,
Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Kataka, Dhenkanal, Nayagad, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Kalahandi, and Rayagada during the period.

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely to occur at some places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Kendujhar, Debagad, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda, where the IMD has issued a yellow alert.

People living in low-lying and vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert as heavy downpours may lead to waterlogging, flash floods and disruption of normal life.

Similarly, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, and district administrations have been put on alert for possible waterlogging, flooding in low-lying areas and disruption in normal life.
