Rourkela: Locals gheraoed Raghunathpali police station in Odisha’s Rourkela following the death of a 50-year-old tea stall owner allegedly due to loud DJ music and deafening sounds from crackers burst during Saraswati Puja idol immersion on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Premnath Barabhaya (50) of Ganesh Market.

The DJ was reportedly hired from Bhadrak by locals for the idol immersion ceremony.

Rourkela Police have detained the DJ vehicle and have begun a probe.

According to eye witness, Premnath was unable to bear the sound from the DJ music and crackers and fell to the ground. He was rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) where doctors declared him dead.

“He was a heart patient. When the cracker burst, the sound was so high that he fell to the ground and died on the spot,” said a local.

Locals are demanding compensation for the family as Premnath was the only earning member of our family. “I received a call from my cousin that my father had become serious and I rushed. We lived with money earned by my father from the tea stall. The government or the DJ owner should give us some compensation,” said Premnath’s son to media.
