Bhubaneswar: As a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal on Thursday, heavy to very heavy rain along with thunderstorm activity and lightning is likely lash many parts of Odisha up to July 2.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal on Thursday morning. It is likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
Under the influence of the system, heavy downpour is likely to batter at many places, especially northern and western regions of the state.
The IMD has issued rainfall alert for several districts for next few days.
Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, and Boudh districts by the morning of Friday. An orange warning has been issued for these districts by the weather agency.
Similarly, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Nuapada, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal during the period with IMD issuing a yellow warning.
Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.
June 27-28: Heavy rain with thunderstorm is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda where the weather agency has issued a yellow warning.
Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.
June 28-29: Heavy rain is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Bargarh.
June 29-30: Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh.
Squally weather is likely to prevail with wind speed 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph along & off Odisha coasts during next 24 hours. Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast till June 26.
