“Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify further into a depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal around 23rd October,” according to the morning bulletin.

The weather agency has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershower at a few places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and at one or two places in rest districts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput on October 23.

With the likely increase in the intensity of downpour during the next 2 days, rain may play a spoilsport during Dussehra festivities in Odisha. “Light to moderate rain is likely in some districts of coastal Odisha on October 24 with the intensity of downpour increasing in these areas from October 25,” a post on X (formerly Twitter) said.

“This would happen under the influence of an easterly,” said regional head of IMD centre H R Biswas.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal from October 20-23 and westcentral Bay of Bengal from October 21 onwards.
