Low Pressure Likely In 24 Hrs, Very Heavy Rain With Squall@60Kmph To Lash Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form over north Odisha and the neighbourhood during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its morning bulletin on Sunday.

“The cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh & neighbourhood extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height persists. Under its influence, a low-pressure Area likely to form over north Odisha & neighbourhood during the next 24 hours,” the bulletin said.

An IMD bulletin had earlier said some districts in Odisha would see heavy to very heavy rain for three days from Sunday.

The MeT office has issued ‘orange warning’ for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul during the next 24 hours.

Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Boudh, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Balasore.

Squally wind speed of 40-5-kmp gusting to 60 km is likely along the Odisha coast during this period.

July 4 (8.30 am) to July 5 (8.30 am

Orange warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Bhadrak, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul.

Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Khordha, Boudh, Puri, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

July 5 (8.30 am) to July 6 (8.30 am

Orange warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls very likely to occur over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal and Nayagarh.

Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Boudh, Sonepur, Khordha, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Jajpur and Deogarh.

July 6 (8.30 am) to July 7 (8.30 am

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Koraput.

Regional head of the IMD centre here H R Biswas said two low-pressure systems, which are likely to form over north Odisha and its neighbourhood, may trigger the showers during the first two weeks of July.
