Low Pressure Over Bay Likely On July 15, To Cause Heavy Rain In Coastal Odisha
Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area, which is likely to take shape over northwest Bay of Bengal, may lead to heavy rainfall in coastal and southern Odisha between July 14 and 17, according to a bulletin of SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
The CEC forecast that the low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to form along the Odisha coast on July 15 under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation which may form over the same area the previous day.
“These systems may cause moderate to heavy rainfall at many places in coastal and south Odisha with heavy to very heavy rainfall in the southern districts between July 14 and 17,” the bulletin said.
Meanwhile, a feeble upper air trough extending from east Uttar Pradesh to south Odisha coast favoured light to moderate rain at many places and heavy rainfall at one or two places in north and coastal districts on July 12 and 13, it said.
The low pressure system over northwest Bay of Bengal may intensify into a depression on July 18 and 19 and gradually move northwards before crossing north Odisha coast on July 20 evening causing widespread and heavy to very heavy rainfall in north, western and coastal districts extending upto July 21.
Earlier, the IMD forecast that Odisha may continue to experience heavy to very heavy rain till July 16.
