Bhubaneswar: Odisha may continue to experience heavy rain and thunderstorm activity till July 15, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.

According to the midday bulletin, the low-pressure area has become less marked and moved over south Jharkhand and neighbourhood as a cyclonic circulation. This system, along with a monsoon trough extending from Suratgarh, Bhiwani, Aligarh, Banda, Daltonganj and Digha to northeast Bay of Bengal and another from northeast Arabian Sea to the cyclonic circulation over south Jharkhand & neighbourhood, is triggering rainfall activity over the state.

The weather agency has warned of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur on Thursday (July 10). Thunderstorm/lightning along with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sonepur, Bargarh and Balangir.

Though there is no heavy rain warning for the next 2 days, thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Nuapada, Balasore and Bhadrak districts on July 11 and Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on July 12.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may resume at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts on July 13. There is also a yellow warning of thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.

On July 14, heavy may accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue to lash Mayurbhanj district. Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.

Heavy rain may continue across the state on July 15, it added.
