Puri: The schedule for daily rituals of sibling deities at Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri town has been revised in view of the lunar eclipse and Kartika Purnima on Tuesday (November 8).
The temple will be closed to the public on November 7 night and rituals will begin at 12.10 am on November 8 after the opening of the door.
THE REVISED RITUALS
>> Dwaafita Niti will be conducted at 12.10 am.
>> Bhitarashodha, Mangala Alati, Mailama, Tadapa and Abakasha Niti will be performed in the early hours of Tuesday
>> ‘Sunabesha’ or ‘Rajadhiraj Besha’ of the deities by 2.30 am
>> The Bhoga Mandap rituals will be completed by 5.50 am.
The Sun will rise at 5 (hour) 54 (minute) and 53 (second) and cessation of the Devaniti (rituals of the deities) and Pakatyaga (prohibition of cooking) will begin at the same time, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) said.
It further clarified that devotees will be deprived of witnessing the ‘Suna Besha’ since Mahasnana, Bhoga and other rituals are scheduled to be held after Grahan Sparsh.
The eclipse will start at 2:38:14 pm and continue till 6:18:47 pm on November 8. Food abstinence for people starts at 5:54 am. Accordingly, the Boita Bandana rituals will be performed in the early hours.
