Bhubaneswar: The first Vice Chancellor of Odisha’s Maa Manikeshwari University Professor Sanjay Kumar Satapathy breathed his last at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. He was 63.
According to family sources, he was ailing for a long time and had been on leave since October. He was admitted to the hospital a few days back and is said to suffered a brain stroke.
Satapathy joined as the Vice Chancellor of the university on April 16, 2021, and has since played a pivotal role in its development.
The eminent educationist, writer, actor, lyricist, singer, and anchor was conferred with the prestigious ‘Devgiri Samman’ for his lifelong contribution in the field of education, literature and culture in 2022.
Satapathy guided more than 25 PhD researchers and served in various colleges and universities of the state. He was involved in stage, radio and television productions since 1971. He was a recognised lyricist and singer of All India Radio and a regular television host.
Berhampur University Vice-Chancellor Dr Geetanjali Dash expressed grief over Satapathy’s death. “Very sad news. Am shocked to know about demise,” she said.
