Puri: ‘Maha Snana’ ritual was performed at Shree Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri after a servitor of the 12th century shrine got injured on Saturday.
According to sources, the wound led to bleeding following which the servitor was shifted to a local hospital for first aid.
The incident took place after the completion of the morning rituals. The servitor slipped and fell on the ground while carrying water.
Soon after, the temple priests ordered Maha Snana ritual to be performed. Darshan of the sibling deities was halted during this special ritual.
During Maha Snana, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra are not bathed. Rather, the ritual is performed by pouring water on mirrors placed in front of the idols amid chanting of mantras.
Sources added that the temple administration halted public darshan at the shrine during the ritual.
