Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) campus in Jatani, Khurda district of Odisha, a student died after falling from a hostel terrace late on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Vinay Sanyasi Venkat, a third-year Integrated MSc student hailing from Nagpur in Maharashtra.
According to sources, Venkat slipped and fell from the roof of Bhagirathi hostel within the campus. Security guards found Venkat in critical condition and rushed him to NISER campus health centre. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was urgently transferred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced emergency care, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Jatani police reached the scene after being informed of the incident, took possession of the body, and have initiated an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the fall. The body remains at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where a postmortem examination will be conducted once his family members arrive from Nagpur.
Campus authorities have not yet issued a statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
