Puri: A day after two COVID-19 cases were reported in Puri town, the district administration on Monday declared Mahadev Lane in the sea beach area as a containment zone.
Briefing the media here, Puri Collector Balwant Singh said samples of three family members of a lodge owner in Mahadev Lane were collected on May 7. They had returned from West Bengal on May 5. Of the three, two male members in the age group of 19 and 59 have tested positive for the virus.
“As per the government instruction, we will send these two patients to Bhubaneswar today,” he added.
Asking people not to panic because of the two new cases, Singh said it will be wrong to assume that there is no threat as Puri is under the green zone. “We can successfully fight the disease if we work together,” he pointed out.
The collector also advised the people to strictly adhere to the social distancing norms and other guidelines like hand washing, wearing masks and not venturing out of the house unnecessarily.
He said that the district administration will close down shops if the owners violate the social distancing norms and collect fine from the people for not using the masks.
The collector also requested the people to cooperate with the district administration by providing information about people, who have arrived in the Pilgrim Town without prior information and registration.
