Mumbai: Mahindra’s Thar has received an overall 4 stars in the Global NCAP crash test. It got 12.52 points out of 17 for adult occupant protection.
Head and neck protection were found to be good, while chest protection was adequate.
Child protection is quite good, and is even higher than Mahindra XUV300 which received 5 stars overall.
Driver’s knees are not well protected and could come in contact with “dangerous structures behind the dashboard”, in case of an accident, NCAP said.
The hardtop version of the top-end Thar was tested.
It is important to note that while safety features are same across the range, the base variants don’t have 3-point seatbelts for rear passengers and ISOFIX child seat mounts as well as a roll cage.
Global NCAP has recommended a review and improvement of the Thar’s Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) as it found a ‘unstable dynamic behaviour’.
