Puri: In a major achievement, the police arrested dreaded criminal Manua Mohanty and four of his gang members and seized several arms and ammunition from them in Odisha’s Puri.
With the arrest of the five, a major plan by the gang members to commit multiple dacoities in the area was foiled, police said.
Acting on the basis of precise intelligence-based information, the Puri police launched an operation and caught the notoriuos criminals from a hideout near Huluhulia bridge in Talabania area of the town.
Three semi-automatic pistols, ten rounds of live ammunition, some sharp weapons and mobile phones have been seized from the five arrested persons, Puri SP K Vishal Singh said.
Apart from Manua Mohanty, the other four arrested persons were identified as Soumyaranjan Biswal of Jagatsinghpur, Milan Mishra of Raghupati Nagar, Deepak Suar of Suar Sahi and Neelu Barik of Markandeswar Sahi.
Manua has at least 18 cases in different police stations. The gang was active in Puri and neighbouring districts. Police had been trying to nab the gang members for the last four weeks and finally they were apprehended.
