Fazilka: The Border Security Force (BSF), in coordination with the Punjab Police, has busted a major Pakistan-based narco-terror racket in Punjab’s Fazilka. Two persons have been arrested with 16 pistols and a huge quantity of ammunition.
Further investigation is in progress to nab other members of the group involved in smuggling arms, ammunition, explosives and narcotics from Pakistan and distributing them among terror operatives.
“A highly successful joint operation was conducted on the night hours of September 11, leading to the seizure of a big haul of arms and ammunition and apprehension of two smugglers,” a BSF official said.
The team was acting on precise intelligence input developed by the BSF’s intelligence wing. The joint team executed a meticulously planned operation in the Theh Kalandar village of Fazilka and seized 16 pistols, 38 magazines, 1,847 live rounds and one motorcycle, The two arrested smugglers are residents of Jhok Dipulana and Mahatam Nagar villages in the Fazilka district.
The sophisticated pistols are of Austrian, Chinese and Turkish make. Officials said that it is clear that such weapons could only have entered Pakistan with support from the authorities in that country.
It is being suspected that the weapons and ammunition were sent in batches by drones across the Indo-Pakistan border. The drones landed at pre-designated sites and the items were collected by the smugglers. Terror outfits like the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) are known to be involved in the narco-terror racket.
“Narcotics, cash and explosives are also sent across the border along with weapons and ammunition. The two smugglers are being interrogated for more details. This operation decimated Pakistan’s larger narco-terror plot, thus effectively dismantling a potential threat to national security,” the official added.
