Make Scones At Home With The Queen’s Iconic Recipe From 1960!

New Delhi: Stories related to Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96 on Thursday, September 8, 2022 are tumbling out all over the world. Those who had the pleasure and honour of meeting her, are recalling sweet memories, while others are digging out information.

One such interesting story surfaced on Twitter and caught the attention of foodies online. Twitter user and historian Michael Beschloss took to the platform to share the time when Queen Elizabeth personally shared her iconic scones recipe in 1960.

On January 24, 1960, Queen Elizabeth II had written a letter to the then US President Dwight D. Eisenhower after hosting him for a visit. The letter is available in UK’s National Archives and was shared on Twitter by Beschloss.

“Dear Mr. President, Seeing a picture of you in today’s newspaper standing in front of a barbecue grill reminded me that I had never sent you the recipe of the drop scones which I promised you at Balmoral. I now hasten to do so, and I do hope you will find them successful,” wrote the late Queen in her letter.

The full recipe of Queen Elizabeth’s drop scones from 1960 was also shared on Twitter by the same user. Also known as Scottish pancakes, the recipe called for using ingredients like flour, caster sugar, milk, eggs and butter. The recipe was said to be enough for sixteen people.
