Bhubaneswar: Unregistered vendors, who run their business in makeshift structures in Bhubaneswar, will not be permitted to open shops henceforth. Their stalls will be evicted soon, warned City Mayor Sulochana Das on Tuesday.
While monitoring a mass cleaning programme at CRPF Square, Bhubaneswar Mayor Das informed the media that unauthorised makeshift vending structures will be removed from all 55 main road stretches in the city
“Despite repeated warnings, the unregistered vendors continue to open their stalls at different areas in the city. All such shops will be removed. The vendors, who have registered themselves with the Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation (BMC) will be provided permanent shops at the vending zones,” she said.
Even shop owners at permanent vending zones will have to adhere to the guidelines and use dustbins, she further stated.
Cleanliness drive and beautification work in the city has been expedited ahead of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) conference from January 8-10. “Over 5,500 delegates are expected in the city during the event. We will be exhibited our culture and these drives are in tune with our tradition of cleaning our house before the arrival of the guests,” she added.
