Berhampur: Police on Monday arrested a person on charges of biting off the ear of a doctor at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
According to sources, Tarini Mahapatra had brought his pregnant wife to the hospital on Saturday. Following labour pain, she was taken to the labour room on Sunday morning.
Tarini attempted to barge into the labour room but was stopped by a doctor, Sakil Khan. This led to a scuffle during which he bit off the ear of Khan.
Tension ran high in the hospital soon after as the irate doctors lodged a complaint at the police outpost inside the hospital premises demanding the arrest of the accused.
Following information, Sadar SDPO rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Police later arrested Tarini.
While the accused refuted the allegation, some doctors in the gynaecology ward said that the accused had also attacked them inside the labour room.
