New Delhi: In a bizarre breach of courtroom decorum, a man identified as Mohammed Imran barged into a video-conference hearing while wearing only his undergarments, smoking a cigarette and drinking alcohol, according to media reports.
The virtual intrusion occurred during proceedings at the Tis Hazari Court, where Imran repeatedly joined using a pseudonym and ignored admonitions to leave. A senior police official told HT, “He used the name ‘Akib Akhlak’ for it.”
Imran, a history-sheeter with over 50 prior FIRs for robbery, snatching and other offences across Delhi, had no legitimate reason to appear in the case. Authorities said this latest incident triggered a fresh case on September 22, filed by the record-keeper of the Tis Hazari Courts.
When arrested, Imran told police that he had learned of the WebEx platform from an acquaintance and had joined out of curiosity. He admitted that during the virtual sessions on September 16 and 17, he had appeared in his undergarments, smoked cigarettes, and consumed alcohol.
Despite repeated instructions from court officials, Imran persisted in staying on the call. Technical tracing revealed that he used multiple fake email IDs and frequently changed locations to evade detection. “Using local intelligence and manual searches, the team traced the accused to Chaman Park, Old Mustafabad, and arrested him from his residence,” a senior police officer told HT.
At the time of his arrest, police recovered a mobile phone, a SIM card, and a router which Imran allegedly used to carry out these disruptions. According to authorities, Imran had been released from jail in September 2021, but soon resumed criminal activity — including theft, snatching and violations under the Arms Act — to sustain his drug and alcohol addiction.
