Bhubaneswar: As part of efforts to bolster preparedness and response mechanism to deal with natural calamities, the Odisha government has decided to construct a state-of-the-art Disaster Management Building in Bhubaneswar.
Preparations are almost complete for setting up the proposed advanced disaster management office in the capital to be constructed at a cost of Rs 200 crore, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said.
The project, to come up near Lok Seva Bhawan in the state capital, is expected to be completed within two years, he said.
The multi-storey structure, with underground facilities, will house major offices responsible for managing natural calamities.
Important organisations such as the Special Relief Commissioner’s Office, Fire Service Department, and other disaster response agencies will operate under one roof. This will ensure seamless coordination among departments during emergencies, the Minister said.
The new building will be digitally connected with all districts to enable real-time communication and faster response, he said.
This apart, the state government is holding talks with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to acquire advanced technology and infrastructure support to further strengthen its disaster management capabilities.
