Cuttack: A man was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his in-laws’ house in Badamba area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Manoj Mallik, who was staying at his wife’s place at Karadibandha village in Badamba tehsil.
According to sources, Manoj belonged to Alara village under Narsinghpur tehsil. He got married to Laxmipriya Rout of Karadibandha village five years back and was staying at his in-laws’ place after marriage. His wife informed Badamba police on Sunday after finding her husband hanging and unresponsive.
A team from Badamba police station recovered his hanging body on Sunday and launched an investigation.
A senior police officer said that Manoj had been staying at Karadibandha due to a dispute with his brothers.
While the deceased’s wife reportedly claimed that Manoj had died by suicide, the victim’s father strongly rejected the claim and alleged that his son was brutally murdered. He also lodged a police complaint.
A murder case has been registered based on the complaint lodged by Manoj’s father Basant Malik, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Athagarh Biswajit Mohanty said.
Manoj’s father has alleged that his son was murdered by his in-laws. “His wife went back to her home after marriage and never returned. We used every forum like police and panchayat to convince her to return but she took my son to her house instead. Now, my son’s in-laws cut off his private parts and murdered him. I have filed a FIR at Badamba police station,” Manoj’s father claimed.
Police have launched investigation to determine the exact cause of his death. Scientific team reached the spot and were gathering clues, as part of the probe.
