Sambalpur: A POCSO Court in Odisha’s Sambalpur has sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for 30 years for raping a minor girl in the Mahulpali police jurisdiction.
The Court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on convict Anil Samad while awarding the jail term for the crime committed on April 27, 2024.
The incident occurred when the girl had gone to witness a dance programme with family in Mahulpali area. Anil sexually assaulted the minor girl in a nearby forest and abandoned her near his residence before fleeing.
The survivor was found in a critical condition. The girl was first admitted to a hospital nearby and later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla where she remained under treatment for around 15 days. Her family lodged a written complaint with the police leading to the arrest of Anil.
During investigation, police collected crucial forensic evidence, conducted Test Identification (TI) Parade, ensured scientific evidence analysis (CE report), collected digital evidence, and maintained strict supervision at every stage.
After 14 months of trial, the POCSO Court found Anil guilty and pronounced the sentence. The Court also directed the authorities to pay Rs 13.5 lakh compensation for the victim.
