Boudh: In a ghastly incident, a man allegedly hacked his wife to death with a sharp weapon and chopped her body into pieces at a village in Odisha’s Boudh district.

As per preliminary information, the gruesome incident took place at Brundaban village under the jurisdiction of Boudh Town police station on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Ambruti Nag. Her accused husband, identified as Sanatan Nag, has absconded after committing the crime.

The couple lived at the Tikira Sahi area of Brundaban village. According to locals, Sanatan was a habitual drunkard and was regularly involved in quarrels with his wife. He was also beating his wife now and then.

The accused returned home in an inebriated condition on Tuesday night and quarrelled with his wife. The argument took an ugly turn when Sanatan picked up a sharp weapon and hacked his wife to death and then chopped the body into over 20 pieces.

The incident came to light after the villagers noticed blood in front of the house. Sensing trouble, they informed the police. A police team broke open the door and recovered the woman’s body.

Police sent it for post mortem after registering a case in this regard. Efforts are on to trace the accused, police said.
