Puri: A young woman was allegedly hacked to death by a relative at her brother-in-law’s house in Odisha’s Puri district. The deceased has been identified as Lili Priya Behera.
According to sources, Lili was staying at her brother-in-law Alekha’s house at Bangurigaon village in Kakatpur tehsil for studies. Late on Friday, when she answered the door, a man allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon, killing her on the spot. When her brother-in-law and sister woke up on hearing her screams, the attacker had fled.
While police was yet to divulge further details, Alekha has alleged that his nephew Smruti Ranjan Biswal is the culprit.
“He was working for me but I dismissed him over his drinking and drug addiction. He was upset over this and wanted revenge. He had come to kill me but mistakenly, attacked Lili,” Alekha told a local news channel.
On being informed, Kakatpur police reached the house and managed to capture Smruti, who was found near canal in an inebriated condition. Scientific teams are collecting clues at the crime scene and Lili’s body has been sent for post-mortem.
