Balangir: A man has been detained by the police for allegedly murdering his sister-in-law at Chitramunda village in Muribahal area of Odisha’s Balangir district.
The accused, identified as Bhojaraj Sahu, is being questioned by the police in connection with the death of Ranju Sahu. As per information, the incident took place on May 2. The victim, Ranju Sahu, had been living alone as her husband works outside the state.
It was alleged that the woman was killed after she rejected advances made by Bhojaraj, her husband’s elder brother.
Sources said police have reconstructed the crime scene, during which the accused confessed to the crime. The incident came to light two days ago when the body of Janaki Sahu was recovered near the village.
After preliminary interrogation and investigation, the accused admitted to the crime. On Tuesday morning, police conducted a scene recreation, during which accused reportedly narrated the sequence of events.
Police said the accused had been making repeated romantic advances towards Janaki for quite some time. However, she consistently refused his proposals, which led to frequent arguments between them. Taking advantage of the absence of the victim’s husband, the accused allegedly continued to approach her for a relationship. Infuriated by her rejection, the man allegedly hit and killed her with a stone.
The family had earlier approached the police regarding the matter a few months ago.
A senior police officer said the accused committed the murder after his proposal was rejected. Further investigation is underway.
