Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested by the police on Monday for allegedly threatening to attack a woman with acid over one-sided love affair in Saheed Nagar area of Bhubaneswar.
The accused, identified as Sunil Sethi, was taken into custody based on a complaint lodged by the woman.
As per information, the woman and the accused had been in a friendship for about a year. The woman alleged that after four months of friendship, Sethi got married to another woman. However, he continued to harass her after getting married, expressing his desire to marry her despite her repeated refusals.
“He (accused) told me that he was forced by his family to get married and insisted that he only wanted to be with me. However, I turned down his plea and asked him to stay peacefully with his wife,” she told reporters.
The woman further stated that the man then began blackmailing her and shared her photos on various social media platforms. he even sent them to her brothers.
The situation escalated on Monday when Sethi arrived at her workplace with three accomplices.
“I had just closed my shop and was heading for lunch when Sunil and his friends approached me. Sunil and one of them were carrying acid, while the others held rods. I shouted for help and some locals rushed to the spot. Seeing the crowd, the accused fled. I immediately informed my brothers, and we filed a complaint with the police,” she added.
Acting on the complaint, a team from Saheed Nagar Police Station rushed to the site and apprehended Sunil Sethi. Further investigation is in progress.
