Baripada: In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly killed his wife and mother-in-law and buried their bodies in his garden at a village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

As per information, the incident took place at Nuagaon village under the jurisdiction of Kuliana police station in the district on July 29. The accused has been identified as Debasish Patra.

While the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, Patra allegedly crushed both women to death using a stone as domestic violence took an extreme turn.

After committing the double murder, Patra reportedly buried the bodies in his lemon garden and planted a banana tree on the site in an attempt to hide the crime.

However, villagers turned suspicious as the two women remained missing for several days. Some people also noticed fresh digging in the garden. Suspecting foul play, they alerted local police, who arrived at the scene and exhumed the bodies.

The accused has been taken into custody for interrogation. Investigation is in progress to uncover the motive behind the chilling crime. Further details are awaited.
