Rourkela: A man was nabbed by the police in Odisha’s Rourkela for allegedly posing as a SPG commando from the security team of the President.
Police said the conman was apprehended from Kachery Road area under the jurisdiction of Uditnagar police station on Monday night following information received about his suspicious activities.
The accused, who identified himself as Borado Sudhir (21), falsely claimed to be a SPG commando and part of the security team of the President to influence people and derive undue benefits.
The conman used to check into luxury hotels and indulge in shopping at expensive outlets. On the plea of online payments, he would show fake payment screenshots and escape, a senior police official said.
Before visiting Rourkela, the accused had reportedly stayed at a hotel at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand and escaped after making a fake online payment.
However, hotel officials in Rourkela suspected his credentials and informed the police. The Jharkhand police were also looking for him and informed the Rourkela police.
After tracking his movement, a police team apprehended the accused on Monday night. Further investigation is in progress.
