Man Sentenced to 20-Year RI For Rape Of His Daughter In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A POCSO court in Bhubaneswar has sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years for rape of his minor daughter.

As per the case, the convict, C Siba Patra from Ganjam district, was staying with his wife and two daughters in a slum under Capital police station. On April 6, 2018, his pregnant wife was admitted in the Capital Hospital where she delivered a girl child.

While his wife continued to remain in the hospital due to post-delivery complications, Patra was staying with his daughters. On the night of April 16, he raped his 10-year-old daughter. The victim girl told her elder sister about the incident and both of them went to their relative’s house the same night.

The girls’ relatives filed a complaint at Capital police station and Patra was arrested. The police sent the minor girls to a shelter home after producing them before Child Welfare Committee.

Hearing the case on Tuesday, the Ad Hoc Additional Sessions Judge, Fast Track Special Court (POCSO), Bhubaneswar, convicted Patra and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 and ordered that he has to undergo RI for one more year of he failed to pay the fine.
