New Delhi: Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia on Saturday shared a morning selfie, enjoying a cup of tea with his wife, and captioned it “first tea of an independent morning.. after 17 months!”
“The freedom that the Constitution has given to all of us Indians as a guarantee of the right to live… The freedom that God has given us to breathe in the open air with everyone,” he wrote on X in Hindi, while encapsulating the meaning of freedom.
The former Delhi CM walked out of Tihar Jail around 6.45pm last night. He was received by party leaders Atishi, Sanjay Singh, and Durgesh Pathak, who stood in the rain holding umbrellas for him to come out.
On Friday, the Supreme Court of India on Friday granted bail to Sisodia in the corruption and money laundering cases linked to the Delhi excise policy, stating that his prolonged detention without any progress in trial was a violation of his fundamental rights. He was released on a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh with two sureties of the same amount. The court also ordered him to surrender his passport.
Soon after his release, Sisodia visited Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to meet his family members. He reached his previous official residence at Mathura Road, currently allotted to minister Atishi and where his family stays, around 9.30 pm.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested the AAP leader under the Prevention of Corruption Act on February 26 last year. Following this, he stepped down from his position in the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023. He was also arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on charges of money laundering connected to the initial CBI probe on March 9 the same year.
