Maoist Bid To Trigger Explosion Foiled In Odisha’s Malkangiri, IED Defused By BSF

Malkangiri: An attempt by Msoists to trigger a major explosion was foiled after security forces successfully defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the ultras in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.

The explosive device planted by the naxals to target security forces was detected at a forest road in Sudhakanda area of the district. As the route is often used for force movement, the ultras planted it targeting the security personnel, sources said.

Following detection of the IED planted near a culvert, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel launched an operation to defuse it. A possible tragedy was averted as the IED weighing around three kilograms was successfully neutralised by the jawans.

The success comes close on the heels of gunning down of three Maoists in a major operation inside a forest of Kalahandi district of the state recently. A DSP was also injured in the gunbattle with the red rebels.

It may be noted here that five districts of Odisha bordering Chhattisgarh have been put on high alert following the kiling of ten policemen and a civilian driver in a Maoist attack in Dantewada area of the neighbouring state last month.
