Visakhapatnam: An Indian Navy personnel allegedy murdered his lover and then chopped her body into pieces, before storing them in a refrigerator.
Chintada Ravindra then turned himself in to the police. Officials reached his residence to discover the gruesome crime.
Ravindra (30), posted at the Navy’s premier air station INS Dega in Visakhapatnam, came in touch with Polipalli Mounika (31) through dating app ‘Mingle’ in 2021. Since then, the two met frequently at various locations across the city, such as parks and theatres, the police said.
When Ravindra’s left to visit her parents in Vizianagaram a couple of weeks ago, he sensed it was a great opportunity to spend quality time with Mounika and called her over on Sunday afternoon, as reported by NDTV.
A fight reportedly broke out between the two by the evening, and Ravindra allegedly suffocated Mounika to death. The naval personnel then allegedly purchased a knife from an online delivery platform and cut the body into pieces.
Ravindra allegedy separated head, legs, and hands from the torso, preliminary investigation revealed. He then packed the legs and hips in a trolley bag, stored the torso in the refrigerator, and transported the head and hands to a different location, where he allegedly burned them.
He then walked to a police station and confessed to his crime. Mounika had taken Rs 3.5 lakh from him during the course of their relationship and would often threaten to reveal their relationship to his wife, the accused claimed.
This was the reason behind the frequent disputes between the two, including the one on the day Mounika was killed, Ravindra told the police.
Ravindra had apparently planned the murder as he was tired of constant harassment and threats by Mounika ever since he married another woman in 2024, investigation has revealed.
A special police team has now been formed to search for the missing body parts. A murder case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
