Balangir: The body of a woman was found hanging inside a house at Patnagarh in Odisha’s Balangir district under mysterious circumstances on Saturday, with her family alleging that she was murdered.
The deceased woman’s father alleged that his daughter was murdered over demands for dowry.
According to preliminary information, police took her husband and sister-in-law into custody for questioning and deployed a forensic scientific team to investigate the scene.
The deceased woman, identified as Sumanti Chand, was married to Omkarnath Thakur of Patnagarh area.
Her family members alleged that she was subjected to regular torture and verbal abuse by her husband and in-laws for dowry.
The woman’s father claimed that his daughter had spoken to her mother on Friday evening. She had alleged that her husband and in-laws were again torturing her and threatening to kill her. “Later I received another call and we were told that she killed herself,” he told media.
Police initiated a formal inquiry and registered a case of Unnatural Death (UD) case. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the precise cause of death.
