New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki has finally launched a new 1.5-litre diesel engine, which has been fitted to the Ciaz.
Named DDiS 225, the four-cylinder engine produces 95hp at 4000rpm and 225Nm of peak torque at 1500-2500rpm. This is 5hp and 25Nm more than the previous 1.3-litre Fiat sourced Multijet engine.
The new Ciaz now gets an ARAI-rated fuel economy of 26.82 kmpl, an increase of 1.27 kmpl. This makes it the most efficient diesel-manual mid-size sedan. The car also gets a new 6-speed manual gearbox.
The new engine is BS-VI ready. Maruti claims NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness) levels are minimised despite an all-aluminium build due to use of a dual mass flywheel along with optimized compression ratio that reduces engine fluctuations. The mild-hybrid tech is not included in the new diesel Ciaz.
The prices have been hiked by Rs 17,000 to Rs 35,000 depending on the variant. The new prices are as follows:
Delta Rs 9.80 lakh
Zeta Rs 10.62 lakh
Alpha Rs 11.02 lakh
All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
The Ciaz has been a best-seller in its class and faces competition from the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Toyota Yaris.
