Rourkela: In a brazen late-night heist, a group of masked burglars raided a jewellery store in Kalunga industrial area under Brahmanitarang police limits near Rourkela, making off with gold and silver ornaments valued at over ₹30 lakh.
The entire burglary was captured on the shop’s CCTV cameras.
According to video footage accessed from the crime scene, four to five masked men with torches broke into shop during the late hours, bypassing security measures, and ransacked the shop with calculated precision. Despite active CCTV surveillance inside and outside the premises, they operated unbothered, indicating a pre-planned operation. It is being suspected that the burglars took advantage of power cuts and heavy night rain to execute the break-in.
Following the incident, Panposh SDPO and officers from Brahmanitarang police station rushed to the scene alongside a dog squad to gather forensic evidence. Special police teams have been formed to track down the suspects by analysing the CCTV footage and identifying potential escape routes.
Given that the Jharkhand state border is located just 30 to 35 km away, police strongly suspect the involvement of an organised interstate criminal network operating across the Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh borders.
Police patrolling in the area has been intensified as search operations continue to apprehend the culprits.
