Mohali: A powerful blast rocked an oxygen cylinder plant in Phase 9 of Mohali on Wednesday morning, resulting in the deaths of two persons and injuring at least three. The explosion occurred during routine operations at the factory, identified as Hi-Tech Gas Private Limited, which supplies medical oxygen to major hospitals in the region.
Authorities responded swiftly, with medical teams, police, and fire services rushing to the site to launch rescue operations. The injured were transferred to the Civil Hospital, Phase 6, Mohali, for urgent treatment. Senior officials from the district administration and police, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, were present to oversee relief measures and assess the damage.
Eyewitness and official accounts state that the blast was so severe that it shattered windows, damaged nearby industrial buildings, and scattered debris nearly a kilometer away, reaching Kambala village. Around 25 employees were inside the unit at the time of the incident, and preliminary reports suggest the explosion took place while oxygen cylinders were being loaded for delivery. The deceased have been identified as Asif, 28, and Devinder.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility of gas leakage. As a precaution, nearby premises were evacuated. The district administration has assured that a thorough investigation will be carried out, and action will be taken based on the findings.
