Sambalpur: In a daylight murder, a 36-year-old man was shot dead by miscreants at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Md Anish, who was running a meat business in the town.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place at Kirba Chhak in Burla town when miscreants fired three rounds from close range, reportedly killing the man at the spot.
Initial investigation showed that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute and longstanding issues with the killers. Police have detained one person, identified as Raja Swami of Mangala Bazar of Jharsuguda for questioning in connection with the murder.
The weapon used in the offence has also been seized. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
Following the incident, VSSUT authorities have advised the students not to leave the hostel for a day. A notice issued by the DSW said all Wardens, Assistant Wardens, and Security Guards are instructed not to allow students to leave the hostel today, in view of the reported shootout at Kirba.
In case of any urgency, students must obtain personal permission from the undersigned through their respective Warden before going outside the hostel, it said.
