Bhubaneswar: Taking note of the shortage of manpower in COVID hospitals, the Odisha government has directed the authorities of state-run Medical College and Hospitals to form committees for proper utilization of the available human resources in their respective institutions.

According to a Health Department notification, the committee in each medical college will be led by the dean, principal and the superintendent. The committee will also comprise senior teachers of the Department of Maternal & Child Health (MCH), Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) or their representatives as members.

The committee members will visit the COVID hospitals regularly to review the duty hours and attendance of the staff there.

The committee will also prepare the duty roster of the para-medical staff. On their part, the managers of the COVID hospitals will ensure proper distribution of duty hours to the hospital staff.

Besides, the committee will regularly monitor the supply of oxygen cylinders, timely administration of medicines and the food served to patients in the COVID hospitals and submit a daily report to the Health Department.

The notification further said the leave application of a staffer on medical grounds will be reviewed by an institutional committee of the COVID hospital. Then, the committee formed by the respective medical college will accept the proposals of the institutional committee.
