Bhubaneswar: The number of medical seats in Odisha for the 2025-26 academic session, the admission process for which began on July 30, has been reduced to 1,813, down by 50.
The Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) attributed it to the decision of National Medical Commission reduced the MBBS seats at DRIEMS Institute of Health Sciences and Hospital from 100 to 50.
Last year, there were 1,863 seats – 1,709 MBBS and 154 BDS.
This year, the total MBBS seats in the state, excluding the 15 per cent All India quota, is 1,659. These include 212 at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack; 213 at MKCGMCH, Berhampur; 85 each at FM Medical College, Balasore, SJMCH, Puri, DDMCH, Keonjhar, GMC Sundargarh, GMC Bhawanipatna, and BBMC Balangir; 42 at JKMCH, Jajpur; 170 at VIMSAR, Burla; and 106 at SLN MC, Koraput.
However, 10% of these seats are reserved under EWS quota.
OJEE Chairman DP Satpathy stated that state quota medical counselling registration started on July 30 and was extended to August 2, aligning with the MCC’s NEET-UG counselling deadline. The state merit list will be released on August 3, with choice filling and locking until August 6. Provisional seat allotment for the first round is set for August 7, followed by fee payment and reporting to colleges between August 8 and 14.
