Mainpuri: In a rerun of the Meerut murder, the Uttar Pradesh police have arrested a woman for getting her husband killed with the help of her paramour and a contract killer. Pragati had been married to Dilip Yadav for less than a fortnight, when she took the decision to take his life.
According to the police, Pragati was in a relationship with Anurag Yadav from her village for the last four years. Her family did not accept the match though and forced her to marry Dilip Yadav (22) on March 5 this year.
During interrogation, it came to light that Pragati allegedly told Anurag about Dilip being a wealthy man. She apparently told her lover that they would become rich if Dilip was dead. She then paid him Rs 1 lakh to arrange for a contract killer.
“Anurag got in touch with one Ramji Nagar and paid him Rs 2 lakh to kill Dilip. On March 19, Dilip was returning from Kannauj after taking care of some business. On the way, he stopped at a Dhaba near the Patna Canal. Two men on a motorcycle approached him there, seeking his help in getting a stranded vehicle restarted. Dilip left the spot with the two. He was taken to a wheat field, assaulted and shot. Locals found him in an injured condition and informed us,” a senior police official said.
Dilip died in hospital three days later.
The police checked CCTV footage and identified Ramji Nagar. During his interrogation, Ramji confessed that he had been paid by Anurag to commit the crime. Anurag, in turn, told the police that Pragati was the mastermind. She was subsequently arrested.
