Meet India’s First Female Ticket Inspector To Collect Over Rs 1 Crore In Fines

Chennai: Ticket inspectors catching rogue train travellers is not an uncommon sight in India.

But a female official doing such a tough job is rare. And when a woman ticket inspector sets a record in collecting fines, she is bound to be applauded.

The Railways Ministry was all praise for Rosaline Arokia Mary, who recently became the first female ticket checker to collect more than Rs 1 crore in fines from travellers without tickets or valid ones.

She works as Southern Railway’s principal ticket inspector.

Ministry of Railways took to its official Twitter handle to share an appreciative post about the achievement of Rosaline, who works as principal ticket inspector of Southern Railway.

“Showing resolute commitment to her duties, Smt. Rosaline Arokia Mary, CTI (Chief Ticket Inspector) of @GMSRailway, becomes the first woman on the ticket-checking staff of Indian Railways to collect fines of Rs. 1.03 crore from irregular/non-ticketed travellers,” Railways tweeted along with her pictures on duty.

Twitterati poured their heart out for Rosaline, applauding her feat and congratulating her.

There were several interesting comments, including from a Mumbaikar.

“Mumbai needs the service of Smt. Rosaline Arokia Mary especially at FC ladies during peak hours (both morning and evening). Lot of unauthorised travellers are traveling in ladies FC, very pathetic condition of honest ladies FC travellers. Please send her at Mumbai CENTRAL RLY,” he wrote.

Another user wrote: “We need more such challenging and dedicated women to make our Bharath a superpower. Congratulations Rosaline. Keep the tempo rising.”

Another person blasted Railway officers. “Group C and D staff are working tirelessly but the officers are busy looting the railway. No action is taken by the Ministry even after various complaints,” he wrote.
