Meet The First Woman Editor In 170-Year History Of Reuters
Renowned international news agency Reuters has made history by naming a woman as editor-in-chief for the first time in its 170-year of existence.
Alessandra Galloni will oversee 2,500 journalists employed in 200 locations globally. She will take over from 66-year-old Stephen Adler – who ran the show for a decade – on April 19, Bloomberg Quint reported.
A former Wall Street Journal newswoman, the 47-year-old Galloni will to be based at the headquarters in London.
She joined Reuters in 2013 in their southern Europe bureau, and served as global managing editor who handled news planning since 2015.
“She was the standout candidate among an extensive global search and highly competitive recruitment process which featured many impressive internal and external candidates,” Reuters president Michael Freidenberg said in a statement.
