Bhubaneswar: With heatwave gripping Odisha, some places in interior districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Angul, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh and Kalahandi are likely to record 42 degree Celsius or more, the India Meteorological Department informed on Tuesday.

The Met office said that there will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 5 days and advised people to take precautionary measure while going outside between 11 am and 3 pm. Thunderstorm and lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is also likely in coastal and adjoining districts, it added.

By 11.30 am, Jharsuguda was the hottest at 42 degree Celsius, followed by Sambalpur (39.2), Keonjhar (37.6), Hirakud (37.4), Chandbali (36.6) and Bhubaneswar (35.6). The capital city had recorded 32.8 degree Celsius and 79% humidity by 8.30 this morning.

The mercury is likely to soar to 44 degree Celsius in Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Balangir and Titlagarh by the end of the day with the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack at 38 degree Celsius each, according to a forecast by the IMD.

The interior parts of the state will continue to reel under sweltering heat for the next four days, it added.
