Bhubaneswar: With cold wave sweeping Odisha, 12 places recorded night temperature at and below 10°C in the state in the last 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
G Uadaygiri, the hill station in Kandhamal, was the coldest at 4.8°C, followed by Semiliguda in Koraout (6.6°C), Rourkela (7°C), Jharsuguda (8°C), Chiplima in Sambalpur (8.8°C), Keonjhar (9.5°C), Phulbani and Daringbadi, also in Kandhamal, at 9.5°C each, Sundargarh (9.7°C), Kirei in Sundargarh (9.8°C) and Sonepur and Angul at 10°C each.
The mercury plummeted to 11°C in Balangir and Bhawanipatna and 12°C in Baripada, Bhadrak and Dhenkanal.
Dense fog was also seen in Dhenkanal and Angul and shallow to moderate fog in Bhawanipatna, Koraput and Gopalpur.
Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 13.2°C and 13°C respectively. The night temperature in the the twin cities was 16.4°C and 15.2°C respectively on January 1 and 18.1°C and 16.5 °C on December 31.
The state capital recorded 14.6°C at 5.30 am, a decrease of 4.8°C since December 30 when the temperature was 19.4°C at the same time, according to senior meteorologist Umashankar Das.
On Wednesday, the IMD had forecast 2-3°C fall in the night temperature during the next 24 hours with no large change during the subsequent 4 days.
