Bhubaneswar: The migration of leaders from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) continued in Odisha as a block chairperson of the party joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday.
Tilottama Muduli, chairperson of Jeypore block in Koraput district, joined BJP officially with her supporters in the party’s state headquarters in Bhubaneswar. They were welcomed to the party by BJP’s state [resident Manmohan Samal.
Besides Muduli, 14 sarpanchs and samiti members and hundreds of BJD workers joined the saffron party.
Similarly, as many as 148 leaders and workers of BJD and Congress from Jajpur also jumped to BJP on the day. They included several present and former sarpanchs. Led by former sarpanch Dilip Kumar Mohanty, they joined the BJP in the party office here.
It may be noted that two Rajya Sabha members of BJD had earlier resigned from the BJP and were re-elected to the Upper House as candidates of the saffron party. They are Mamata Mahata and Sujeet Kumar.
While Kumar was elected to Rajya Sabha unopposed on Friday, Mamata was re-elected on July 31.
