“At 7 pm on June 1, a catastrophic landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, struck the military camp at Chhaten. Immediate rescue operations were launched. So far, four individuals have been rescued with minor injuries, while three bodies have been recovered. Rescue teams are working round the clock under challenging conditions to locate the remaining six missing personnel,” the Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesperson in Kolkata said.
Chhaten is near Lachen. The incident underscores the vulnerability of areas prone to landslides and the challenges of disaster response in remote, mountainous regions.
